Grandma Magda’s Goulash – A Classic That Brings Back Memories!

Ingredients (6 servings)

  • 1 kg beef, cubed
  • 4 large onions, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 50 g celeriac, diced
  • 2 tbsp clarified butter
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 700 ml red wine
  • 300 ml beef broth
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp hot paprika
  • Salt & pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Optional: sauce thickener

Preparation
Dice the onions, carrots, and celeriac. Sear them well in clarified butter until lightly browned. Add tomato paste and roast briefly, then stir in both paprikas for a few seconds.

Deglaze with red wine and broth, then add the beef cubes. Bring everything to a boil, add the bay leaves, and let it simmer gently for about 2 hours until the meat is tender and the sauce thickens naturally.

Season with salt and pepper to taste, and remove the bay leaves before serving. If you like, you can thicken the sauce slightly.
